A family is displaced and their dog was killed in a fire that destroyed their Egg Harbor Township home Tuesday night.
Firefighters were called to the fire in the Fountain Lake development at about 5:30 p.m.
The Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company, which is right across the street from the neighborhood, arrived to “a well-advanced spreading fire,” according to a statement.
The Scullville Volunteer Fire Company also responded. A second alarm called with companies throughout the township, along with Somers Point and Mays Landing with Marmora and Pomona called to cover in case of other calls.
The home in the 300 block of Superior Road was destroyed, displacing the family, which includes an 11-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy. No one was injured. Four dogs also got out safely, but a fifth dog, Scooby, was later found dead. A long-haired black cat named Zoe is still missing.
Anyone who has seen the cat is asked to call 609-369-0433.
Some clothing has already been donated to the family. Anyone wishing to help can send donations to 319 Superior Road, Egg Harbor Township 08234. Gift cards are especially welcome, a friend said.
Cyndi Coons is also helping collect. She can be reached at 609-289-5203.
