Atlantic City man arrested in shooting, robbery

  • News

An Atlantic City man is in jail for allegedly beating, shooting, and robbing a man in December.

Jeremiah Hurt, 42, was arrested this week in the Dec. 10 shooting of a man in the 500 block of North Ohio Avenue, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus for treatment of gunshot wounds to his legs.

Hurt pistol-whipped and robbed the man, Aristizabal said the investigation found.

In a 2016 jailhouse interview, Hurt insisted he never carries a gun. At that time, he was serving a three-year sentence for an assault and theft.

By that time, Hurt had been shot on nine occasions and lost his twin brother to gun violence.

Hurt was previously acquitted in the 2006 killing of 25-year-old Eduardo Gomez.

He is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, and conspiracy, Aristizabal said.

NOTE: The Atlantic County Justice Facility is barred from releasing mugshots under an order by the former prosecutor.
