  • News

A Pleasantville man pleaded guilty Thursday in the fatal 2018 beating of a woman in Atlantic City.

Mark Huff, 58, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and faces a recommended sentence of 25 years in prison under the plea agreement, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill said.

Police were called at about 11: 30 p.m. April 14, 2018, reporting a body had been found behind 21 S. Tennessee Ave.

Vernell Vance, 56, was found with significant blunt-force trauma to her head.

Video footage from the area showed a man repeatedly striking Vance in the head with a concrete masonry block and stomping on her, according to information previously released in court.

Huff was arrested April 16, 2018, and has been jailed since.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 10 before Superior Court Judge Nancy Ridgway.

Vernell Vance was found dead behind a residence on Tennessee Avenue.
