Northfield man seriously injured in crash

  • News

A Northfield man was seriously injured when his vehicle crashed into a traffic signal Monday night.

Daniel Summers, 25, was traveling south in the oncoming lane of Tilton Road when he struck the curb in front of TD Bank and then a traffic signal at the intersection of New Road, Northfield Police Capt. Steve Steinecke said.

Summers was trapped in his vehicle, which was split in two.

The Northfield Volunteer Fire Co. responded at 10:38 p.m., and was able to quickly extricate him, according to a post from the company.

A Medevac that was called in case getting him out took longer, but that was not necessary, the post said.

Summers was taken to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Firefighters stayed on the scene until about 1 a.m.

Bargaintown Fire Company, Northfield Emergency Management and Linwood police assisted.

Patrolman Herb Kreuz and Lt. Eric Dettinger investigated.

Neither drugs or alcohol are believed to have been involved, Steinecke said.
