Teen arrested with handgun in Atlantic City

  • News

A teen was arrested after he allegedly brandished a handgun at someone Monday night.

Officers were called to the 2900 block of Milano Terrace at 9:46 p.m. for a report of three males confronting a passerby, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

One of the suspects took a handgun out of a backpack he was carrying and pointed it at the victim, according to the report.

A few minutes later, Officers Ivaylo Ivanov and Salvatore Marciante saw three males matching the description of the suspects in the first block of South Bellevue Avenue, Aristizabal said.

The three ran from officers east through an alley toward South Florida Avenue, where Marciante left the vehicle and stopped two of the three suspects, according to the report.

The 16-year-old was caught by Ivanov, and taken into custody without incident, Aristizabal said.

The backpack as found a short distance away with a handgun inside, according to the report.

The gun allegedly was loaded with hollow-point ammunition, and had no serial number, rendering it a so-called “ghost gun.”

The teen, whose name was not released due to his age, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a ghost gun, possession of hollow-point bullets, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

He was taken to the Harbor Fields Juvenile Detention Facility.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigation Section at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
