Mom injured rescuing two kids from water in Brigantine expected to recover

  • News

A mother who was in critical condition after trying to rescue her two children from the ocean off Brigantine is expected to recover.

The 28-year-old woman jumped into the water July 13, when her two young children became overpowered by the current, a witness told police at the time.

Lifeguards, who were readying to start work in a half-hour, rescued the woman and the children.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said Thursday that they received information from a family member that the woman’s condition has improved and she is expected to make a full recovery.

“Because of the mother’s selfless actions and the witness immediately seeking help, the children were able to be rescued by Brigantine Beach Patrol who were training prior to their shift on a beach nearby,” police said in a statement at the time.

They also commended police officers, firefighters and Beach Patrol members “for their quick, professional, and competent response that led to multiple lives saved.”
