An Atlantic City man wanted for allegedly brandishing a gun during a domestic violence incident was arrested after barricading himself inside a residence for about three hours Thursday.
A woman on probation in a shooting was arrested for helping him avoid police, according to the charges.
He was wanted in a May 28 domestic case when Detectives Darrin Lorady and Eric Evans recognized him as they were conducing an investigation in the 300 block of North Tennessee Avenue, police said.
The detectives saw Butcher open the front door of a neighboring residence, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said. When Butcher saw the officers, he ran back inside the residence and refused to come out.
Claria Barrigher was also inside with him, Aristizabal said.
Both refused to leave the residence, according to the report.
The department's SWAT team, Crisis Negotiations Team and Bomb Squad responded.
Lorady, who is a crisis negotiator, made contact with Barrigher via cell phone, Aristizabal said.
After about three hours of negotiations, Barrigher and Butcher left the residence and were taken into custody without further incident.
Butcher was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest. He was given a summons for those charges. He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on the outstanding warrant, which charges him with aggravated assault with a firearm, terrorist threats and weapons offenses.
Barrigher, 29, was given a summons for obstruction and resisting arrest.
