Galloway man ordered held after seventh criminal case while on probation

  • News

A Galloway Township man accused of dealing drugs while on probation with six pending cases was ordered held in jail Tuesday.

David Blocker, 53, was on a medication-assisted treatment for his own drug addiction when he was allegedly selling crack and methadone to others, according to information provided during his detention hearing Tuesday.

Blocker was the target of a month-long investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Unit when he was pulled over last Wednesday and found with 51.7 grams of crack cocaine, about six doses of 80 mg each of methadone, $924 in cash, a digital scale and a cell phone, according to the charges.

His home on Xanthus Avenue where he lives with his wife and three children — ages 12, 5 and 4 — was also part of a search.

Blocker was already on probation from a 2017 manufacturing/distribution of a controlled dangerous substance conviction related to his part in a drug ring led by an Egg Harbor Township family and fueled by oxycodone prescriptions from a North Jersey doctor.

Now he has seven open cases with a total of 29 charges, Assistant Prosecutor Allison Eiselen told the judge.

He also has served 11 sentences for which he was incarcerated.

Despite that, he has "a lifelong history of recidivism (and) his criminality is escalating and ongoing," Eiselen said.

Blocker is currently attending treatment in Galloway, where he receives vivitrol injections to block the effects of heroin, attorney Steve Funk said.

He also is a registered Megan's Law sex offender, Eiselen told the judge. He has been convicted in the past of failing to register.

It was not clear when that charge came or the specifics of that case.

Blocker is not listed on the public registry, which does not list all offenders. His prior convictions include child endangerment.

He will now stay in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending the outcome of this case.
