Wildwood Crest couple arrested in endangerment of grandkids

A Wildwood Crest couple have been charged with child endangerment after their young grandchildren were found in "deplorable" condition, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office.

Police were called to a home on Lake Road in Wildwood at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday for a child endangerment investigation.

Responding officers found that New Jersey police were conducting a separate and unrelated investigation concerning child endangerment, according to the report.

It was determined that the living conditions were below an acceptable standard and that the physical condition of the children "was deplorable and unacceptable."

The children, ages 2 and 8, are temporarily in the custody of the Division of Child Protection & Permanency.

Phyllis and Luvone Jantti, ages 53 and 57, were arrested on charges of in connection with the endangerment.

Both were charged with two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and released on summonses.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional charges may be forthcoming, officials said.
