Ex-convict arrested in Atlantic City stabbing

  • News

An Atlantic City man was arrested in a stabbing Saturday night, after a police officer rendered life-saving aid to the victim.

Officer Joseph Kelly Jr. was on routine patrol when he found a man collapsed in the street around Hummock Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at about 5:15 p.m., Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

The 23-year-old man had been stabbed in the chest and was bleeding heavily, according to the report.

The officer applied a chest seal to the puncture wound, Aristizabal said.

He was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he underwent surgery, a source told BreakingAC.

It was learned that the victim was stabbed inside a residence in the 1700 block of Logan Street, Aristizabal said.

It was the same place where shots had been fired hours earlier. It was not clear if the two were related, Aristizabal said.

Additional patrol units were dispatched to the residence, which had several individuals inside, according to the report.

Officer Ivaylo Ivanov used the loudspeaker on his vehicle to command the occupants to exit the home, Aristizabal said.

One of those who exited was identified as the suspect.
