OSHA investigating subcontractor's fatal fall at Ocean City amusement pier

  • News

OSHA is investigating after a subcontractor died in a fall from an Ocean City Ferris wheel Monday morning.

"We are saddened to report that an employee of a subcontractor working on a lift at Gillian's Wonderland Pier suffered a fatal injury," Jay Gillian wrote in a letter posted to the pier's Facebook page. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Labor Leni Fortson confirmed that the Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating.

Ocean City Fire Department EMTs responded to the popular Boardwalk amusement park just after 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The worker's name was not released. He worked for Cargo Tech International out of Swedesboro, Gloucester County, Fortson told BreakingAC.

A woman who answered the phone at CTI said they had no comment.

OSHA has six months to complete its investigation and release its findings, Fortson said.

"We are cooperating with all appropriate authorities to thoroughly investigate the cause of this tragic accident," Gillian said. "As we get more information we will provide it."
