A dump truck overturned on a curve in Egg Harbor Township, temporarily closing part of Spruce Avenue on Friday.
Joe R. Humphers, 55, was driving a loaded 2000 tri-axle Mac Truck north on the S curve on Spruce at about 3 p.m., when he went into the southbound lane and lost control, Lt. Cherie Burgan said.
The vehicle, owned by Colonial Lawn Care, rotated clockwise and rolled onto the driver's side, sliding until it came to rest against the southbound guardrail, Burgan said.
The full load of sand was dumped all over the roadway.
Bargaintown and Cardiff firefighters responded. Atlantic County HAZMAT also responded as a precaution for fluids leaking from the vehicles.
Spruce was closed from Mill to West Jersey in both directions for about three hours.
Humphers sustained injuries not considered life-threatening. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus in Galloway Township via ambulance.
EHT Volunteer Firefighters from the Bargaintown and Cardiff stations responded along with Atlantic County HAZMAT as a precaution for fluids leaking from the overturned vehicle.
The crash is being investigated by Officer Ben Kollman. Summonses pending completion of investigation.
There was also a crash blocking Zion Road going in the opposite direction. That is in addition to the already limited traffic at Fire and Mill road.
