Barnegat man pleads guilty in drug-induced death

  • News

A Barnegat man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2019 drug-induced death of a woman.

Curtis Geathers, 37, faces four years for the death and a concurrent five years for possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute when he is sentenced July 22, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said.

Police were called to a Point Pleasant residence Jan. 10, 2019, for the report of an unresponsive woman. She was taken to Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township, where she died two days later.

An investigation found that Geathers was the supplier of heroin and fentanyl that was determined to have caused the woman's death.

He was one of three people indicted in July of 2019. Geathers distributed wax folds containing heroin and fentanyl to Tiffany Coger and Michael Tiedemann some time between Jan. 5 and 9, 2019, the prosecutor said at the time.

At that time, warrants had been issued for Coger and Tiedemann. It is not clear where those cases stand. Neither is in custody at this time, records show.

Geathers has been jailed since Feb. 7, 2019.
