Egg Harbor Township couple indicted in case that duped Galloway woman of $600K

  • News

An Egg Harbor Township couple accused of writing millions in bad checks and duping a Galloway Township victim out of more than $600,000 have been indicted.

Wei Song, 59, and Botao Liu, 52, have been jailed since August, after the years-long scheme came to light.

The victim invited the friend she knew as Coco Li from Jilin, China, to say with her family.

But it was really Song who wove an engineering scheme that portrayed her as wealthy and successful with numerous businesses in her name, according to the affidavit previously reported by BreakingAC.

Song would “provide various excuses and reasons why Min couldn’t receive her ‘profits’ or original money back,” the affidavit states.

The tales were allegedly bolstered by Liu.

Song allegedly took the victim’s driver’s license on the pretense of building the woman’s credit.

Instead, Song allegedly used the victim’s identity at various casinos in Atlantic City and in other states to incur more than $3 million in win/loss profits, which left the victim with IRS judgments against her for unpaid taxes.

Song is now indicted on first-degree money laundering, and second-degree charges of theft by deception, identity theft and writing bad checks.

She could a face as long as 20 years in prison on the money laundering, with as long as 10 years on the second-degree offenses.
