Ventnor man admits brandishing gun while driving on expressway

  • News

A Ventnor man pleaded guilty Thursday to gun possession.

John Stevens,19, was arrested last year after a 911 caller said there was someone in a vehicle brandished a handgun.

The vehicle was spotted by troopers not maintaining its lane, according to the report. A high-risk motor vehicle stop was made.

The female driver was ordered out of the vehicle, detained and searched for weapons. None was found.

Stevens was ordered out next, and was found with an unloaded handgun.

Inside the vehicle police found a vacuum-sealed bag containing more than a pound of marijuana.

Stevens claimed ownership of the marijuana. He did not have a permit for the gun.

He faces 3½ years in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 26.
