Atlantic City wellness check led to two guns and a lot of pot, police say

Atlantic City police checking on a couple inside a parked car found two guns and more than 14½ pounds of marijuana.

A resident flagged down Officers Aidan Richardson and Dion Liu just before 6 p.m. Monday for two people inside a parked car possibly having a medical emergency, according to the report.

Gregory Donzuso and Shannon Lockhart at first appeared to be sleeping. Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

But upon further investigation,they found Lockhart was having a medical emergency, he said.

The emergency was not specified, but the officer rendered medical aid to the woman until emergency medical services arrived, Aristizabal said.

The officers then saw what appeared to be a large amount of marijuana packaged inside a large open box in the back seat of the vehicle, according to the report.

Officers eventually recovered 14.6 pounds of marijuana, along with two defaced 9mm handguns, a 30-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition, a silencer, three rifle rounds and a digital scale, according to the report.

The officers also seized $546 believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

Donzuso, 34, of Hammonton, and Lockhart, 33, of Egg Harbor City, were arrested. They were charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of a defaced firearm, along with single counts of possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of hollow-point bullets, possession of a silencer, possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense, possession of more than six ounces of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Donzuso was additionally charged with certain persons not to possess a weapon. He has prior charges that include shoplifting and drug charges, court records show.

Both were arrested without incident and are in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
