Atlantic City police have arrested a suspect in the shooting of Union County man.
Police were called to the 1400 block of Memorial Avenue at about 8:20 a.m. March 23, for a report of shots fired.
Gunfire was located but no victim, Lt. Kevin Fair said. A check of local hospitals also turned up no victims.
Two days later, a 42-year-old man walked into the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus with a gunshot wound. It was determined that the unnamed Hillside man was the victim of the earlier shooting.
An investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit led to John Coles being identified as the shooter, Fair said.
Officers Henderson Cedano and Christopher Campbell found Coles in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue on Friday, and he was arrested without incident, Fair said.
He already had pending charges, including a shoplifting from October, records show.
Coles is now charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain person not to possess a weapon.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting a detention hearing.
