A Galloway Township man is jailed after he was found with a loaded gun and a large magazine, police said.
Christian Figueroa, 21, was a passenger in a car with an Ohio plate that was stopped Wednesday in the area of Harding Highway and Main Road in Franklin Township, police said.
It was an investigation into recent dirt bike thefts that led to an officer stopping the sedan, which was seen following a dirt bike, according to the report. Both were speeding.
When Officer Thomas Rambone tried to stop both vehicles, the dirt bike fled, police said.
There were four men inside the sedan, which did stop. They each gave conflicting stories about their travel, and a K-9 was called, according to the report.
Officer Josh Fennimore and his partner, Lee, searched the vehicle.
They found a loaded 9mm handgun that was defaced, according to the charges. The weapon had a 17-round capacity. An additional magazine loaded with 31 rounds of ammunition was also found.
Figueroa, who was the front seat passenger, was arrested.
He is charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a defaced firearm and certain person not to possess a weapon.
Figueroa is in the Gloucester County Correctional Facility.
