An Egg Harbor City teen died Sunday in a crash on Route 40 in Hamilton Township.
Jamyre Dewey Jr., 18, was traveling east in a Mitsubishi Galant just before 8 p.m., when he crossed into the westbound lane around milepost 46.1 and collided with a Toyota Highlander driven by 66-year-old Joseph Tancredi of Wallingford, Penn., according to the preliminary investigation.
Dewey was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Two other 18-year-old men in his vehicle sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.
A third passenger, a 17-year-old boy from Mays Landing was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus via ambulance.
Tancredi sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the Atlantic City hospital via ambulance.
Traffic was diverted for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated.
Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad, AtlantiCare Paramedics, Mays Landing and Laureldale fire departments, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
