A New York man was arrested after he allegedly ran from his vehicle after crashing on the Atlantic City Expressway early Tuesday morning.

State Police were called to single vehicle crash just after 1 a.m., Sgt. Philip Curry said. The crash happened in the westbound E-ZPass lanes of the Pleasantville toll plaza.

Before police arrived, the driver had fled the vehicle on foot into a marshy area near the toll booths, Curry said.

Jerome Reed, 34, was seen in the marshy area near the crash at about 6:20 a.m., according to the report.

Troopers with the help of Pleasantville police rescued reed from the marsh.

He was evaluated by emergency medical staff, but refused medical attention, Curry said.

Reed, who lives in Peeskill, N.Y.. was charged with eluding and released on a summons.
