The Humane Society is caring for a dog found sick and bleeding in an Atlantic City alley.
The dog, named Callie by her rescuers, was brought to the Humane Society of Atlantic County by the city's humane law enforcement officers Sunday.
"She came to us Sunday with heavy vaginal bleeding and started her care," Humane Society Executive Director Steven Dash told BreakingAC.
The Absecon Veterinary Hospital & Emergency Service helped stabilize the dog overnight.
She was picked up and brought back to the Humane Society for emergency surgery Tuesday morning, Dash said.
Dr. Gregory Pieretti found necrotic tissue from a miscarriage during the surgery, Dash said.
Callie was able to eat Wednesday morning.
"Her prognosis is looking better this (morning), but she is being monitored carefully by HSAC staff," Dash said.
If anyone has information about who dumped Callie, call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
