Inmate charged with fatally beating Ventnor man in Atlantic County jail

  • News

A Burlington County man is accused of beating a Ventnor man to death while both were in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit was called to the jail just after midnight for the report of an inmate beaten to death, according to the report.

Kenneth Raymond, 52, was found dead.

An investigation led to Aahznier Hayes, 22, being charged with murder.

Hayes was being held for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old Buena girl he met on Snapchat. He was ordered held at his detention hearing in June.

Raymond's pending charges included criminal sexual contact and burglary out of Hamilton Township. But it appears he was being held on a warrant in a criminal trespass case out of Ventnor, according to court records.

The investigation is ongoing between the Prosecutor's Office and the jail.
