Sea Isle man admits knocking Fox29 reporter unconscious

  • News

A Sea Isle man pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in an attack at a bar that knocked a Philadelphia reporter unconscious.

Patrick Iannone, 22, admitted that had "a lot to drink" before going to the Oar House in Sea Isle City, where Fox29 reporter Bob Kelly was emceeing.

Iannone said he "was not aware of who he was" when he poured beer on Kelly and punched him.

The attack led to a possible concussion with a cut under Kelly's eye and complaints of vision issues, according to information given in court Monday.

Iannone said he understood that his intoxication level could have been a potential defense during trial, when questioned by his attorney, John Tumelty. But he said he instead would plead.

The agreement calls for probation, which could last one to five years, depending on the judge's decision at sentencing in February.

Kelly was not at the hearing, but indicated he would be there when Iannone is sentenced, Assistant Prosecutor Ed Shim told the judge.

Iannone, who was 21 at the time of the attack, also had a prior disorder persons criminal mischief offense a month before the inside at the bar. He was fined $533 for that, court records show.
