An Absecon man is accused of stabbing a woman working at ShopRite on Saturday morning.
The attack was unprovoked and the two did not know each other, police said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was rushed to the hospital.
Officers were called to the store just before 10 a.m.
Jason Wedderburn was found immediately nearby, and taken into custody without incident, police said.
Absecon police credited ShopRite staff who they said assisted the woman while keeping in communication with responding officers.
Wedderburn, 33, of Absecon, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was being processed at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
