An Egg Harbor City man is jailed after he allegedly tried to force his way into several Absecon homes Wednesday.
But Steven Hackett's crime spree did not start there, according to pending charges.
Hackett, 41, was first charged Jan. 8, in four burglaries in Ventnor, court records show.
Then on Jan. 28, Egg Harbor Township police arrested him for shoplifting.
It does not appear he was jailed either time. The last time Hackett was in the Atlantic County Justice Facility before his arrest in Absecon was 2018, according to jail records. That was a shoplifting charge out of Egg Harbor Township.
Absecon police were called to locations off Ohio Avenue, before 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Hackett tried to force his way into a home on Showellton Avenue by smashing the storm door, according to the report.
After he failed to get inside, he fled a block away to Marlin Road, where he confronted the family inside, police said. He fled after a brief altercation with the home owner.
Hackett tried to force his way into another nearby home by kicking in the front door, according to the charges.
He was found and arrested without incident.
Hackett is now jailed on charges of burglary, and two counts each of criminal attempt burglary and criminal mischief.
