An Egg Harbor Township woman was charged in a crash that sent her to the hospital Sunday.
Sarita Hossain, 21, was heading west on the Black Horse Pike under the influence and speeding when she struck a Toyota RAV4 from behind at about 9 p.m. just west of Fernwood Avenue, according to the investigation.
The SUV driven by a 60-year-old man then spun off the road into the wooded area on the westbound side of the pike, Lt. Stephen Slusarski said.
Hossain's vehicle crossed over the center median and came to rest in the wooded area on the eastbound side.
The occupants in the SUV suffered minor injuries and were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus in Galloway Township.
Hossain was taken to AtlantiCare's City Campus in Atlantic City with injuries not considered life-threatening.
She was charged with driving under the influence and two counts of assault by auto. She also was cited for reckless driving, careless driving, improper passing and failure to maintain lane.
Traffic was detoured for about an hour while the crash was being investigated by Officer Patrick Daly.
