A Bridgeton woman convicted of killing her toddler son and then burning his remain was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on Tuesday.
Nakira Griner, 28, claimed she burned the 23-month-old boy after he died accidentally.
But a jury found her guilty of murder last month.
She previously turned down a plea agreement that would have sentenced her to 30 years in prison.
Griner reported her son missing Feb. 8 2019, telling police she was assaulted and Daniel Griner Jr. was taken.
But as the investigation continued, her story fell apart.
Detectives were led back to Griner’s Woodland Drive home, where the windows were opened and fans were on.
An officer said it smelled like something had been burned. It was the little boy's body.
The boy’s father was the one who pointed out a large pink-trimmed bag that his wife normally kept inside the home was out by the shed.
Inside, investigators found the remains of the little boy, who had been dismembered and burned.
Griner eventually told police that she had struck Daniel Jr. when he refused to eat, and then took him out in the stroller and left him.
An autopsy found he died of blunt-force trauma.
Video surveillance showed her walking with the stroller with the boy inside, and then returning without him.
She has been jailed since her arrest shortly after the killing.
