A Bridgeton mother who claimed she burned her son’s body after he died accidentally was convicted of murder Wednesday.
Nakira Griner, now 28, reported her 23-month-old son missing Feb. 8, 2019. She told police she was assaulted and her son taken.
But as the investigation continued, her story fell apart.
The investigation led back to Griner’s Woodland Drive home, where the windows were opened and fans were on.
An officer said it smelled like something had been burned. It was Daniel Griner Jr.
The boy’s father was the one who pointed out a large pink-trimmed bag that his wife normally kept inside the home was out by the shed.
Inside, investigators found the remains of the little boy, who had been dismembered and burned.
Griner eventually told police that she had struck Daniel Jr. when he refused to eat, and then took him out in the stroller and left him.
An autopsy found he died of blunt-force trauma.
Video surveillance showed her walking with the stroller with the boy inside, and then returning without him.
She has been jailed since her arrest shortly after the killing.
A jury convicted Griner of murder, desecration of human remains, endangering the welfare of a child, tampering with evidence and false public alarm.
Griner faces life in prison when she is sentenced, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 21.
