An Atlantic City man who was on probation in one case and pretrial release on a pending set of charges was ordered held in jail Monday.
Ricky Gilliard, 24, was arrested last week as part of police surveillance targeting drug activity on Atlantic Avenue.
He was an out-patient at John Brooks at the time of the arrest, attorney Kevin Moses told the judge.
But Gilliard was released from jail Dec. 22, to receive in-patient treatment, Judge Jeffrey Wilson noted.
He also listed Gilliard’s numerous arrests, including four within less than a month in 2019, and a prison term that lasted from Feb. 7, 2020 to July 1, 2021.
Gilliard was again arrested Nov. 3, 2021 on more drug charges, and returned to prison Dec. 9 of that year.
He was released from a three-year sentence March 18, of last year, and arrested again the next month, the judge said, reading from his history.
Moses argued for Gilliard’s release, saying he had medical issues that include a chronic lung problem that has caused him to lose weight “at an alarming rate.”
He also has a child on the way.
The public safety assessment recommended Gilliard be released, but the judge disagreed.
Noting his continued arrests, Wilson said Gilliard is “not amenable to court supervision and is unwilling to abide by court orders.”
Gilliard could be seen yelling at the camera from his position at the jail, but he was muted.
He will remain jailed as the case goes through the court.
