A tip led to the arrest of a Gloucester County man with a loaded handgun in Atlantic City, police said.

Quadry Wise, 29, of Washington Township, was arrested after he tried to jump a fence while running from police, Lt. Kevin Fair said.

Detective Christopher Dodson received information Sunday that a man in the beach block of California Avenue had a gun, according to the report.

Wise was found by Dodson, along with Detectives Aaron Jones and Eric Evans, and Officer Brandon Bower.

As the officers approached him, Wise ran, Fair said.

A handgun was found in his pants, according to the charges. He also had 58 grams of marijuana that was packaged for distribution.

Wise was released from prison Nov. 19, 2020, after serving a four-year sentence on charges that included aggravated assault, heroin possession and theft, according to state Department of Corrections records.

He is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a large-capacity magazine, certain person not to possess a weapon, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession within a school zone, possession within 500 feet of a public zone and possession of drug paraphernalia.
