Eight doves were released to honor Javier Velez's memory Thursday. One for each year of the boy's life.
"Javi" died Sunday morning after an allegedly drunk driver crashed into his father's parked car.
His 3-year-old brother, Jerry, had just gotten out of the car to help their father bring in the last fishing poles when the crash happened.
An investigation into the crash is still ongoing, with possible criminal charges pending against the driver, 25-year-old Edward Johnston, of Egg Harbor City.
A large crowd turned out to say their goodbyes to the boy, his casket carried down the street by a horse-drawn carriage.
After the doves were released, the flew up and, as if they knew there was more, and perched on the rooftop.
That's when, "through the tragedy" the boy's father proposed to his mother, his great-uncle, Brian Smith, told BreakingAC.
The day before the viewing, a memorial was held outside the boy's home in Philadelphia.
