Atlantic City firefighters rescued a swimmer after normal lifeguard hours Sunday night.
Firefighters were called to the scene between North Carolina and Pennsylvania avenues at about 6:45 p.m., according to Beach Patrol Chief Steve Downey and Fire Chief Scott Evans.
One person was already on the beach when firefighters arrived, with two others out on the pipe between the two streets, Downey said.
One of the males on the pipe had been crawling out to assist the other but turned around when firefighters arrived, Evans said.
Firefighters Joe Welsh and Neil Anderson rescued the male in the water, Evans said.
Back on the beach, Fire Capt. Keith Scattone and Engine One administered CPR to the male who already was on the beach when they arrived.
His condition was not known.
The names and ages of the males were not available.
Lifeguards do not start the afterhours schedule until the last week of the month, Downey said.
Beachgoers are warned not to swim when lifeguards are not on duty.
