An Ocean County man who allegedly had sexual relations with a boy inside a vehicle parked in Brigantine was released from jail Wednesday.
Thomas Aljian Jr., 55, is charged with second-degree sexual assault and third-degree child endangerment after he and the 15-year-old boy were discovered inside a vehicle parked near the Brigantine Observation Tower around 4 a.m. Saturday.
The boy ran as police investigated, then refused to give officers his correct name or age.
But back at the station, they learned he was 15 years old. When officers returned to the scene, they found a used condom near where the vehicle was parked, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.
The boy was then taken to the hospital to undergo a sexual assault examination.
Aljian, who is an attorney, was charged on a warrant, and was arrested Tuesday.
The two met on Grindr, where Aljian said the boy presented himself as 19, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.
Aljian has no criminal history, with the lowest possible score on his public safety assessment, which helps determine whether someone is held under bail reform.
The assessment recommended he be released on his own recognizance.
He must check in with the court weekly, alternating between in person and by telephone. He also can have no contact with the victim.
