A Philadelphia man bit and spit on Egg Harbor Township officers during a fourth confrontation with them Thursday, police said.
Hakim Coles, 25, already had been sent on his way three times before police were called to Somers Point-Mays Landing Road near the Scullville Fire Station for another incident at 4:24 p.m., Lt. Brian Keane said.
Coles had damaged a driver's passenger side mirror after punching it as the driver tried to avoid striking Coles who was walking in and out of the road, according to the report.
Coles refused to stop or speak with the officers and ignored their commands to stop and get out of the middle of the road as he continued to walk away from them, Keane said.
Officers had to use force after attempts to de-escalate the situation failed, he said.
Coles was taken to Shore Medical Center in Somers Point for evaluation due to his behavior, Keane said.
He continued to be combative, biting and spitting on officers as well as hospital staff, according to the report.
One officer suffered minor injuries as a result.
Coles also made terroristic threats to the officers.
He is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges of resisting arrest, aggravated assault on police with bodily fluids, criminal mischief and obstruction.
The incidents comes less than a week after Coles was arrested and then released in North Bergen, Hudson County, court records show.
He was arrested last Friday on charges including aggravated assault and possession of a weapon and legend drugs. It was not clear what the weapon was.
Coles was released the next day.
