A man and woman from New York were arrested after police were called to an Atlantic City motel for a woman being forced into prostitution.
Officers Corey Treadway and Tahsin Hossain responded to the motel in the 3000 block of Pacific Avenue just after 10 a.m. Saturday for a report of human trafficking, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
The officers spoke with an individual who said they believed a woman was being forced into prostitution, according to the report.
Police spoke with the victim, and the two men were arrested.
Colin Sherwood and Jamy Mathis, both 44, were charged with human trafficking and promoting prostitution.
Detectives James Barrett and Alberto Valles found text messages between the two men indicating their involvement.
The victim was assaulted and threatened with physical harm if she refused to participate, Fair said.
The pair are in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending detention hearings.
