Atlantic City shooting puts school on lockdown as students arrive

  • News

Some Atlantic City students arrived to school Friday morning had to be ushered inside as a shooting had the area on alert.

A 29-year-old city resident was wounded.

The school was advised of the shooting, Principal Shelley Williams said in a notice sent to parents.

The school immediately went into lockdown, she said.

Some students were outside walking to school when the lockdown happened, so the school had doors manned "allowing students into the building for their safety."

A ShotSpotter alert at 7:27 a.m. brought police to the 3800 block of Ventnor Avenue, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

Officers found the victim along with evidence of gunfire, according to the report.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

No arrests have been made.

The shooting happened about a block away from a January shooting that had Richmond Avenue Student sheltering in place.
