Police arrest fugitive Atlantic City shooting suspect

  • News

An Atlantic City man accused of a shooting that put a grade school on lockdown last week is now in jail.

Ayman Shiham is charged with attempted murder and various weapons offenses in the shooting that wounded a man Friday morning as students were heading to nearby Richmond Avenue School.

A wanted flyer for Shiham lists him as 21, but he is registered in the Atlantic County Justice Facility as 20 years old.

A ShotSpotter alert at 7:27 a.m. Friday brought police to the 3800 block of Ventnor Avenue, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

Because students were still arriving as the school was locked down, staff were at the doors to escort them inside.

The shooting happened about a block from Stockton University's city campus. That school was not put on lockdown.

It's the second shooting this year to happen near Richmond Avenue.
