Anonymous text leads to A.C. shooting suspect's arrest

  • News

A text through Atlantic City 's anonymous reporting system led to the arrest of an attempted murder suspect this week.

Ayman Shiham, 20, was arrested Tuesday, days after he allegedly shot a 29-year-old man less than a block from Stockton University.

BreakingAC previously reported he was in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges including attempted murder and weapons offenses.

The details of his arrest were released by the Police Department on Thursday.

A tip sent through the tip411 anonymous reporting system notified police that Shiham was seen entering a residence in the 3800 block of Ventnor Avenue, the same street where the shooting happened.

Patrol officers were dispatched and immediately set up a perimeter, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

Officers made contact with Shiham, who surrendered and was taken into custody without incident, according to the report.

The 7:27 a.m. shooting caused Richmond Avenue School to go into lockdown as students were still arriving. The doors were manned so the students who walked to school could be safely escorted inside.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.

Shiham is jailed awaiting a detention hearing.

"Tip411 has been a tremendous tool in allowing the Atlantic City Police Department to communicate anonymously with members of the public regarding matters of public safety," Police Chief James Sarkos told BreakingAC. "This arrest is a great example of the usefulness of the system."
