Absecon man pleads guilty in two separate Galloway gun cases

  • News

An Absecon man who was arrested with a gun at the hospital while out on another gun charge pleaded guilty to both cases this week.

Quasir Smith, now 22, was arrested in the first case Dec. 1, 2020, during a car stop in Galloway Township.

Police found a loaded 9mm Intratec TEC-DC9 firearm with an extended magazine and nearly 150 bags of heroin during a search of the vehicle. He and two others were arrested at the time.

Smith still had that case pending when police were called to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus on Feb. 10, 2022, after hospital personnel found him with a handgun.

Under the plea agreement, he faces a five-year sentence on each charge with a mandatory 3½ years before he is eligible for parole.

The terms are concurrent.

Smith has already served about 13 months in jail.

His sentencing is set for May 9.
