An Atlantic City man on parole for his part in a 2012 murder was ordered held on new gun and drug charges.
Attorney Tom Rossell told the judge that body camera footage will show Dequay Belt taking responsibility for anything found in the home.
It was Belt's actions that brought police to the home, according to information released in court.
Belt, 20, allegedly had an Instagram video showing him in a car with three guns. Police then saw him come out of the home and go back in with a gun, according to the report.
When police went inside, they found two guns on the couch, where Belt sometimes slept, Rossell said.
Another son, Kashaad Belt, had keys to a safe, where there was another gun and drug paraphernalia found, according to the affidavit.
Both Belts are jailed on drug, gun and money-laundering charges. Their mother, Keisha Belt, was charged with the drugs and released on a summons
The only thing that possibly could be attributed to Bennett were the nine bags of heroin found in the bedroom he shared with Keisha Belt, Rossell said.
That caused Judge Patricia Wild to question how Bennett was in compliance with parole if he had drugs.
Bennett pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in 2019. His three co-conspirators remain in prison.
Rossell argued that Bennett was on parole more than two years with no issues. He also said that Bennett takes care of his 10- and 6-year-old children while his wife is at Shore Medical Center, where she is a full-time nurse.
"This is a man who’s on parole," the judge said. "He’s in a house with people who have guns. He’s in a house with CDS (controlled dangerous substances). He’s in a house with people who are posting videos apparently on Instagram or some other social media situation showing guns.
"There are guns on the sofa in the house in which he is living," she added. "A man who is on parole."
Wild ordered Bennett held. He will now remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility as the case goes through court.
