Absecon man gets five years in two Galloway gun cases

  • News

An Absecon man was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday in two separate gun cases.

Quasir Smith, 22, must serve at least 3½ years before he is eligible for parole.

He was arrested in the first case Dec. 1, 2020, during a car stop in Galloway Township.

Police found a loaded 9mm Intratec TEC-DC9 firearm with an extended magazine and nearly 150 bags of heroin during a search of the vehicle. He and two others were arrested at the time.

Smith still had that case pending when police were called to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus on Feb. 10, 2022, after hospital personnel found him with a handgun.

He pleaded guilty to both cases in March, and faced concurrent five-year sentences.

Smith has served about 14 months in jail. He will now be transferred to a state prison, where he has about two years and four months left on his mandatory sentence.
