Absecon police investigating incidents at Field of Dreams

  • News

Absecon police are investigating after several juveniles were involved in incidents at the Field of Dreams over the weekend.

Many of the kids have been identified thanks to video surveillance at the complex, which is staffed by volunteers and offers a place for special needs children and their families.

One mother was there with her children Saturday when she said a large group of middle school boys rode in on their bikes and started using the equipment "aggressively ... to the point where I felt like it could break," she told BreakingAC.

There were a lot of young children, including her own special needs son and his siblings, playing at the time, she said.

One of the boys took a little girl's scooter that was briefly left behind and was being reckless with it because the little girl's grandmother was yelling at them for their behavior, she said.

"As we decided to leave, they started to take the fence apart and started sword fighting with the fence pieces," the mom said. "It was disheartening."

She said she tried calling the non-emergency police number, but had no luck.

"I didn’t want to call 911, as it wasn’t a true emergency," she said.

But police were made aware of the issues.

"Vandalism will not be tolerated and those who commit offenses will face charges," police said.

They asked that the public "help us in keeping the Field of Dreams and the city of Absecon a family-oriented and welcoming community."
