Pleasantville man arrested with loaded handgun

  • News

A Pleasantville man released from prison last year was arrested Thursday for possession of a loaded handgun.

Lamar Parrish, 30, was released from prison in March 2022, after serving time for burglary on charges out of Egg Harbor Township.

Months later, he was charged with several motor vehicle violations and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage in Somers Point, court records show.

Parrish was arrested in Northfield last week on burglary charges, and released on a summon.

He is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges including obstruction, possession of a firearm by a certain person and possession of hollow-point bullets.

Sgt. Craig Dennis was patrolling the area of West Pleasant Avenue and Main Street on foot when he tried to stop Parrish, Capt. Stacey Schlachter said.

Parrish fled and Dennis chased him for a short time before apprehending him without further incident, according to the report.

Dennis saw Parrish clutching his waistband as he fled.

A search of the area of flight by Dennis and Officer Jeffery Beras led to a defaced 9mm Smith & Wesson loaded with hollow-point bullets, Schlachter said.
