Dog left to die in EHT is improving at Humane Society

  • News

A dog who was tied to a tree for about a week in Egg Harbor Township is gaining weight and doing well.

"Franklin" and deceased dog found abandoned in a wooded area after police were called to Wilburforce Avenue.

Derek Hardy, 58; Lassale Hardy, 56, and Shak Balayet, 51, are charged two third-degree crimes of cruelty to animals resulting in death or serious bodily injury. They also face disorderly persons charges of failure to provide care and abandoning a disabled animal to die in public.

They were released on summonses.

Franklin was surrendered by the owners, and is at the Humane Society of Atlantic County.

He tested positive for Lyme disease and is being treated, a post on the society's Facebook page said last week. He also gained seven pounds in his first five days there.

A photo sent to BreakingAC on Wednesday shows the physical improvement as well.

The Facebook post also allows people the option of donating through the social media platform, for anyone looking to help.
