A Gloucester County man was sentenced to five years in prison for possessing a handgun in Ventnor.
David Shields, 44, of West Deptford, must serve at least 3½ years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
He also received a concurrent 18 months for obstruction.
Shields was arrested on May 13, 2021, after Ventnor police were flagged down about a public disturbance.
Shields refused to comply with officers' commands, according to allegations. He was arrested after a brief struggle that injured an officer.
The handgun was located after he was arrested.
Shields also was ordered to pay restitution for the injuries suffered by the officer.
