A former Cumberland County jail officer was sentenced to prison Friday.
Neal Armstrong, 35, of Vineland, was convicted in September of hindering apprehension, terroristic threats, attempted hindering and simple assault by menace.
He threatened to kill the victim if she disclosed their relationship or certain acts and events that occurred at the residence to authorities who were conducting an ongoing investigation involving other jail personnel, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said.
Armstrong also contacted a friend during the investigation, asking for help deleting incriminating messages and data remotely from his cell phone, which had been seized under a court order.
A motion by the defense for a new trial was denied by Judge Cristen D’Arrigo.
The judge sentenced Armstrong to 7½ years for second-degree hindering and another four yearsfor third-degree attempted hindering.
He remains in the Cumberland County jail.
