Ventnor man identified as EHT hit-run victim

  • News

A Ventnor man has been identified as the victim in a fatal hit and run in Egg Harbor Township last week.

Llewellyn Stewart, 65, was struck as he walked in the area of the Black Horse Pike near Bayport Drive in the township’s West Atlantic City section at about 6:40 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Larry Graham said.

The westbound vehicle did not stop. It is still being sought.

The only description at this time is of an SUV-type vehicle with headlight damage.

The road was dark at the time of the crash, and police say someone may have hit something but not know what they struck, Graham said.

"If anyone was driving in the area of the Black Horse Pike between 6:35 and 6:45 p.m., and may have hit something, please know we understand," police said in a statement. "We are trying to make things right for the family of Mr. Stewart."

Anyone who witnessed the crash or is able to provide any additional information is asked to call the department's Traffic Safety Unit at 609-926-2661. An anonymous report can be made to Atlantic County Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234 or 800-658-8477.
