Stockton aims to engage 1,000 giving day donors

  • News

The Stockton University Foundation will hold its sixth annual Ospreys Give starting Wednesday afternoon.

The 24-hour event will end at 1 p.m. Thursday with a goal to engage 1,000 donors.

A kick-off party begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with games, prizes, music and food at Stockton's Galloway Township campus.

This year's theme is gratitude, with Stockton inviting community members to share what they’re grateful for by making a gift in any amount to support students and programs that are meaningful to them.

The Stockton University Foundation raises funds for a variety of causes at the university, including support for students with food and housing insecurity and financial difficulties.

Spencer’s and Spirit Halloween is the leading sponsor, committing to a quarter-million dollars that can be unlocked as donor goals are met.

“We're thrilled to play a pivotal role in our community's growth by proudly supporting Stockton students during Ospreys Give," Spencer's and Spirit CEO Steven Silverstein said. "We believe in fostering our partnership with Stockton, through the strong Stockton alumni representation on our team and our active collaboration providing internship opportunities to current students. We understand that investing in the education of our future leaders is an investment for a stronger community.”

Dan Nugent, vice president of University Advancement and executive director of the University Foundation, said Stockton is "immensely grateful to Spencer's and Spirit for their generous support.

"Their partnership significantly enhances our ability to remove barriers to a college degree," he added. "Spencer's and Spirit continuously sets the example for other organizations in the community through their philanthropy and focus on community service."

A variety of events will take place on Stockton’s Galloway campus and online, to celebrate the spirit of giving and engage students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members.

Other events for the day include Talon Taxi Rides. Participants can hop on the Talon Taxi around campus for a chance to win money for their favorite program or cause.

There will also be a revival of the Stockton Pop-Up Pub, which offers affordable drinks to alumni and friends served by celebrity Stockton bartenders.
