A Bridgeton man charged with aggravated assault is now jailed for manslaughter after the victim died.
Julio Morales-Amilcar, 24, allegedly threw a large rock at the victim during a fight.
He then punched and kicked 35-year-old Clemente Vazquez-Pacheco after the man was already on the ground, according to the charges.
Vazquez-Pacheco, also of Bridgeton, was taken to Inspira Hospital in Vineland, where he was determined to have a brain bleed and listed in critical condition.
Morales-Amilcar was charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses for the rock on Aug. 17.
Vazquez-Pacheco was taken off life support last Wednesday, and the charge was upgraded to manslaughter Thursday as a result of the death.
It appears Morales-Amilcar was out of jail in the interim, but is now in the Cumberland County jail.
A bail hearing will be held to determine if he remains in jail. Due to the charge, the presumption would be for him to be held pending sentencing.
