A Cumberland County man was convicted in the 2020 kidnapping and sexual assault of a former girlfriend.
Julio Sigurani Jr., 50, went into the woman's Deerfield home while she was sleeping, threatened her with a hatchet and raped her, according to the case.
He then stayed in the home for two hours, threatening her, breaking her cell phone and not letting her leave.
A jury convicted him Tuesday on eight counts, including kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, burglary, sexual assault and terroristic threats.
The investigation was handled by the New Jersey State Police and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 19, after undergoing an evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel.
The aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping carry 10 to 20 years in prison, with the burglary and sexual assault carrying five to 10 years.
Sigurani also will have to register as Megan's Law offender with parole supervision for life upon his release.
He remains in the Cumberland County jail.
